It wasn’t too long before I found out that I wasn’t the only one dropping some not so subtle hints. Not to mention all the obsessing wondering if there’s a ring in the picture and all the minutes used on the cell phone venting to the committee of girlfriends. Whether from a friend, a colleague, or a person sitting next to me in a restaurant, I kept hearing about what I call 'pre-engagement limbo.’ No matter how common, those going through it feel like they’re the only ones. How could they not when save-the-date cards are filling up the mailbox. Sure, getting married is unique to each individual. Not all women want to dash down the aisle and not all men have pre-engagement jitters. But, there is a common story of a woman who feels ready to get married before her long-term boyfriend feels ready to pop the question. Enter His Cold Feet.

While in grad school I wrote a paper on men and commitment, hoping to one day write a book so that those going through limbo wouldn’t feel alone. I launched hiscoldfeet.com in Feb. 2005, creating a space to put pre-engagement issues out in the open. And now there’s a book coming out! HIS COLD FEET: a guide for the woman who wants to tie the knot with the guy who wants to talk about it later (St. Martin’s Press) will be out in January!
